Research opportunities for exceptionally talented and strongly motivated students

Ph.D. & Integrated Ph.D. Admissions

(academic programmes starting August 2018)

Applications are invited for admissions to TIFR Deemed University, TCIS, TIFR-Hyderabad for Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. degree programmes under the Subject Boards of Physics and Chemistry. The doctoral programme offers exciting research opportunities in a range of subject areas, and rigorous training aimed at fostering the broad academic growth of students and to meet the specialized needs of their research. The students will receive a degree through the subject boards of the graduate school of TIFR.

Current research activities at TIFR-H TCIS are in the areas of Soft Condensed Matter Physics, Fluid Dynamics, Materials, Chemical Sciences, Optics and Biological Sciences. These activities are planned to expand rapidly in the near future to include other areas including biology.

GRADUATE SCHOOL (GS-2018):

In addition the candidate must have qualified in any of the following examinations:

The written test of TIFR (2017 or 2018) / GATE (Minimum valid score of 480 in 2017 or 2018)/ JEST 2017 or 2018 (Minimum rank of 100 or better) / CSIR UGC NET 2016 or 2017 (JRF eligible).

Candidates with M.Tech. / M.E. / M.S. (Engg.) can submit their earlier scores of GATE / equivalent.

Subject Board of Chemistry :

In addition the candidate must have qualified in any of the following examinations:

The written test of TIFR (2018) / GATE (Minimum valid score of 450 in 2018)/ JAM 2018 (only for Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D., Minimum rank of 300 or better) / CSIR UGC NET 2017 (JRF eligible).

STIPEND

Ph.D.: Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs.25,000/-(enhanced to Rs.28,000/- after registration) and an annual contingency grant of Rs.32,000/-.

Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D.: Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs.16,000/-, Rs.25,000/- from second year (enhanced to Rs.28,000/- after registration) and an annual contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- (enhanced to Rs.32,000/- from second year onwards).

ACCOMMODATION:

Accommodation is provided to Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. students at a nominal cost.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

Selected candidates (based on their academic performance and in the qualifying tests mentioned above) will be called for a personal interview tentatively during 4-6 Jun for Physics and 11-13 Jun for Chemistry which will be held at TCIS, TIFR-Hyderabad.
